Local Authority Websites (LAWs) National Project
On Demand PR role: PR, Marketing, Event Management and Communications Manager
Duration of Assignment: February 2004 to April 2004
The Local Authority Websites (LAWs) National Project main objective is to
help local authorities to deliver a higher quality and wider range of services
online and cost-effectively within the framework of the
e-government agenda. This is in line with the key objective of the ODPM's
'Public Service Agreement' - "assisting local government to achieve
100% capability in electronic delivery of priority services by 2005, in ways
that customers will use."
It is significant that the LAWs project addresses 10 of the 14 priority services and outcomes highlighted by the ODPM which local authorities are expected to deliver by December 2005 (Source: ODPM Consultation Paper “Defining E-Government Priority Services & Transformation Outcomes in 2005 for Local Authorities in England”). This demonstrates the importance of the LAWs project and its potential to be one of the most sought after of the National Projects. The success of its take-up will depend on having a sound communication strategy to disseminate the information, raise visibility and profile and ultimately drive adoption amongst the local authority community.

eTrading Standards National Project (eTSNP)

and Communications Manager
Duration of Assignment: July 2004 to March 2005
eTrading Standards National Project (eTSNP) was a £1.7 million National Project funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). Its relevance was to those authorities responsible for Trading Standards ie: Counties, Unitary and Metropolitan Boroughs.
Most Trading Standards services in local authorities collect and store similar data in relation to their activities, predominately in an electronic format. The key objective of eTSNP was to share this data and to make this accessible to the enforcement community in a useable format for business planning and enforcement purposes. Where possible its aim was to make some of the relevant information available to consumers and businesses, subject to legal and other constraints.

Framework of Multi-Agency Environments (FAME)
On Demand PR role: PR, Marketing, Event Management and Communications Manager
Duration of Assignments: July 2004 to June 2005
In 2003 the FrAmework for Multi-Agency Environments (FAME) National Project, was awarded £6 million to deliver its products, as part of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's £80million electronic government Programme to ensure all local authority services are available to their citizens online by December 2005.
FAME NP had taken on one of the most challenging aspects of eGovernment. Multi-Agency working is key to many of the ideas being driven forward by the government with legislation like the Children Bill; and initiatives like the Department of Health's National Service Strategy for Older People. Both of which explicitly assume that local authorities take the lead and a number of agencies are going to have to co-operate to provide the best service to the user, and to make the job of the practitioner as effective as possible.
